Does anyone happen to know how much demand there has been for the Chinese Immersion Program at Potomac Elementary School last year or for this coming school year? Heard of anyone being waitlisted or getting off the waitlist?

Potomac has a nice boutique program, there...for in-bounds Potomac ES families. I wonder how many slots they get to themselves and what the proportion of slots to student population is there vs. for the rest of those applying.

High demand and local kids get priority. However it’s also partial immersion

We were #10 on the waitlist last year and got in. We received the waitlist offer about two weeks into the school year.

Are you in the Potomac ES district? Do you know how long the waitlist is?

The number of applicants can fluctuate significantly from year to year, but the immersion office does answer these kinds of questions. I’m not sure whether they’d tell you how many local applicants they got.

Definitely not. The Magnet Middle School Consortium also gives preference to its local in-bound kids too.

Does anyone know the history behind Potomac being the only immersion school that gives preference to local students? It feels incredibly restrictive and inaccessible for families who can’t afford to live in the area. I’d love to understand how this policy came about.
