CES Invites to 5th grade

Anonymous
Hello Folks-

I am wondering what your experience has been with getting off of the CES wait list for 5th grade.

We got off the waitlist for 5th grade. But it was 2 weeks after school had started. We decided not to take the spot.

We know someone who was offered the day before 5th grade started. Took the spot and had a great year.

Must be school dependent. At DC's CES they don't take new kids after 1st semester in 4th. There were a few kids that left for 5th. I think one kid's parents got transferred overseas and the other just went back to their neighborhood school but according to the teachers their policy is not to fill those spots so I took from that that they have some say in it and while the central office may get the headcount tallies they were not being asked to pull any additional names from the lottery.

It’s not up to the school. Central office determines placement.

Still haven;t heard anything, but the CES classes have 8 vacancies in 5th grade.

We were told it's up to the school to tell the central office if they will accept new kids beyond the first quarter in 4th. If they do they ask the central office to send out invites but if they don't the central office does not pull new names. I would call your school and ask about the official policy. Our child was already at the CES but we were making casual conversation with an assistant principal during drop off so this was not a well thought out response or anything we got in writing.

Our CES doesn’t fill spots in fifth grade. It’s definitely school dependent

Well we just got an invite to the CES, half way through the first quarter in 5th grade.

We got on and off the waitlist on the same day.
