Turning 40 next summer and would love to share it with my family at a really special, bucket list destination in the US. Will take any and all suggestions! Open to everything as we are just in a planning/dreaming phase.
Travelers will be myself and DW (both 40), young elementary aged kids, adventurous parents in their 70s and some extended family. |
| Mt Rainier is one of the most spectacular things I have seen in the US. |
| redwood forrest |
|
Sedona
Antelope Canyon Grand Canyon |
| I also vote for the Pacific Northwest. You can spend a few days in Seattle and then head out to an island in Puget Sound to spend time on the water. It's so amazingly gorgeous in the summer out there. Of course, Olympic NP would be amazing too, but it's a few hours from Seattle so take that into account. |
| Yellowstone & Grand Prismatic Spring |
| I love point lobos/Carmel/Monterey/Big Sur |
| Glacier National Park |
|
Hawaii
Alaskan Cruise Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon or anywhere you already like but would be made more special by having a really fabulous house, chef/catered food, spa treatments, etc. -- that you wouldn't splurge on normally -- could be anywhere like Aspen, Kiawah Island, Captiva Island..... |
| Yosemite, Acadia, Zion, Grand Canyon... |
Yikes, sounds like a huge group of people of all ages, and probably abilities. These types of trips are a PITA to plan. And they sound great on paper, but in reality, often end in tears. That said, do a cruise. I am not a cruise person but jfc, any of these huge family vacations end in disaster. Too many people, too many preferences to manage, too much chaos. Cruises are made for this. Or just go with your immediate family. |
| Alaska, especially Glacier Bay. |
Door county, Wisconsin. |
+1 Just hikes the Skyline Loop yesterday. Probably my second favorite US hike, behind Grand Canyon. And for those pooping on Portland, Oregon, you need to get out of the downtown and into the neighborhoods. |
Edit: The Portland poopers were in another thread, but the statement stays the same |
