Do you have recommendations for a gym or exercise studio where you’ve felt there was a sense of community? By that I mean there was more to the experience than just ‘coming, exercising, leaving’? |
Barre3 Bethesda is a supportive and friendly place. |

Ffs, WHERE????? This area is enormous and the entire sense of community comes from what is Closest to you!!! |
We have this at Orange Theory in downtown Silver Spring. They have regular events at the bars around the studio like trivia, pop up workouts and hikes. They do monthly fundraising or supply raising events and things like pet months where we all brought in pics of our pets. They do a nice job. |
yikes. |
Double yikes. Looks like you need to post up about some anger management classes “closest to you”. People do travel for things they care about. |
Most CrossFit boxes are like this.
And be open-minded. Most are not filled with bros. Most are filled with just regular folks looking to get a workout in |
If you do something regularly and have good etiquette, you'll be welcomed as part of the group pretty much everywhere, OP.
The key is consistency and consideration for others. |
I feel like Orange Theory encourages community, but you really have to go multiple times a week. I know coworkers who talk about their OTF “people” and they all go to different locations in Arlington/ Falls Church. I think the key is to go the same time and days regularly.

Definitely Burn Boot Camp. My local one (Ashburn) has an excellent sense of community but I know that overall the entire franchise really pushes it. |
Do people in their fifties go to Orange Theory? People that haven't worked out in a while? I'm interested but nervous. |
Yes. You can get more information than you would ever need from this subreddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/orangetheory/?rdt=43102 |
Second Barre3 Bethesda. Made some of my good friends from there and have become friendly with many instructors too. |
Lifetime Rockville has a majority of 50+ with many classes geared to that life stage. It results in people getting to know each other and hang out in the cafe a few times/week. Plus there are groups that go out outside the gym. |
