| We just found out that we need to replace our central AC unit. We have a 1930s home in dc. I’d like to get multiple quotes. Would you mind sharing who you’ve used, approximately how much it was to replace your unit, and if you would recommend the company? Thank you in advance. |
| All of it or what part? |
| All of it-indoor and outdoor units not the duct work though |
| Indoor and outdoor units. And approximately how long did it take to replace? |

Make sure you're dealing with an owner-operated firm. Whatever you do, don't do business with a firm that is owned by private equity, they will take advantage of you.
Two notable local firms that have been acquired by private equity investors in recent years are Cropp-Metcalfe and Furr. |

I have to replace two this year. The Florida place will be 8-9K. The DC is coming in at 11.
Both companies doing the install have dropped Carrier as an AC supplier. Not because the units are bad, but Carrier, even today, is experiencing long delays for parts. 6-12 month wait times for parts to repair a unit. |
Your quotes are very reasonable. Are you getting one or two a/c units per home ? |
Each gets one unit. DC house has 2, but the other unit is only a few years old. Florida is a single unit cooling a 2200 sqft townhouse. |
| Just paid $10k in Bethesda. |
Who did you use? Op here-was just quoted 21 k. We live in a 2500 sq ft house. Getting two more quotes |
$21,000 for replacing one A/C unit ? Seems quite high. Is there other work included in that estimate ? |

New 4-ton Trane heat pump, furnace, compressor, air handler. $16,500.
2,700 square foot house. |
Oh, I have oil heat, which severely limited the vendors i could use. |
Who did you use??? |

I replaced AC only in my small SF house (1400 square feet) last year for about $6,000. It’s a Lennox. However, the compressor died in June (I started a thread on here about it then) and I was first told it would take two weeks to get the new part because of manufacturing issues. But two weeks later they still didn’t have it and had to replace the whole unit, which was still under warranty.
I think Lennox is an OK brand and the HVAC company told me I unfortunately got a rare lemon. Still, I would think twice about this brand in the future. |
