I need to put a rug pad under an existing rug

Anonymous
This is in my daughter's bedroom. Her bed is already on top of the rug. I am disabled and can't do the work myself, so I was planning on hiring someone from Task Rabbit. But do I need 2 people? It should be a quick job, so I hate to spend a fortune on it. But I can't quite figure out how one person is going to lift the bed up and move the carpet at the same time. How will this work?

I think one person should be fine. It’s an area rug? They’ll pull the run out from under the bed, put the pad under, then fold it over, slide it up against the bed, lift the bed over the folded bit, unfold under the bed, and then get everything positioned correctly.

At least that is how I would do it, and I do a lot of moving rugs and furniture around by myself. I hope it works out for you!

I suspect you need 2.
We hire 123Junk to do stuff like this. They have labor only rate. IIRC $140 was minimum.

Ah, I wasn’t thinking about pulling the rug out from under. I was thinking we’d need to move the bed. I think your way will work!

Would furniture sliders help?

Oh crap. I had those and I just threw them away.

Consider asking on Nextdoor (for a small fee, I’m sure you’ll find willing high schoolers) or posting a message asking for free help on your local Buy Nothing group if you are on Facebook. If I were your neighbor, I would gladly help you for free.

I think one person will be fine. You don’t have to lift the whole bed at once to do this.

I'm about to have to do the same thing (received the rug pads after I had to put the rug under furniture, doh) and this is the method that I was going to try.
