So, I lost my mouthguard. That is totally my fault, I realize.
To order a duplicate, however, the practice is claiming I must go in and be rescanned (even though the one I list fit me perfectly , so no new scanning is necessary). And so the new one will cost $995!!! Do you know anyone who will provide a good mouth guard, in the Bethesda/Rockvilke area, for a sane price. It is a piece of plastic for God’s sake! |
| No. |
| I have no idea of the pricing, but my kid got 2 from the dentist at the time of initial scanning and order, for this very reason. Good luck. |

If you lost something like glasses or hearing aids or a retainer, what do you think it would cost to replace?
Medical devices are expensive. Wait until Jan and use your FSA or some shit like that. |
I did not expect it to be free. But the fact that do not save the scan (electronic file), so they make a profit not just the company that provides the device, is a scam. Orthodontists just order as many retainers as you request. They don’t pretend you are a new patient off the street and start from scratch. |
| Ask for your molds or data file and see if you can get it made elsewhere. Those are patient records and it’s your right to have them and se if you can get a retainer elsewhere. |
To add, if you lost your glasses and your script is over 1 year, I believe they make you have a brand new eye exam. |
| Teeth are always moving/shifting. You risk it not fitting if you don’t get a new scan. They still have to pay the lab fee and take time in their schedule to deliver it/make adjustments as needed. No dentist wants your previous scan and would want a recent scan. |
| Unfortunately, this is what these cost. |
| Fwiw my kids orthodontist charges $75 to replace a retainer. They have the scans why can’t they just make a new one. |

Use www.proteethguard.com
I’ve ordered from them many times. It’s the same company dental companies outsource the making of the guards to. |
Not the same thing. |
It was the type that is soft on the inside, so when you heat it, it molds to your teeth. It is hard plastic on the outside. If it fit two days ago, that means the SAME EXACT size would fit tomorrow. Money grab. |

I think (not 100%sure but almost) this is the office I used last year and I believe they charged around 400$, but the situation was a bit different and required more work than what you describe. Good luck!

This is good. When we got ours 4 years ago it was an extra $75 or so to get an extra one at the time but they said if we lost later a new one would entail a new mold and would cost a lot more - almost the price of the original. Murphys law… I figured paying the $75 would mean my son has yet to lose it if I had forfeited it, I’m sure he would’ve lost it a few times by now.
