Can anyone recommend any titles that deal with social mobility - can be both fiction and non fiction.
“Educated” and “Glass Castle” come to mind but what else? |
| I liked "Limbo: Blue-Collar Roots, White-Collar Dreams" by Alfred Lubrano. It's non-fiction and includes interviews with people who've experienced social mobility |
|
The best I’ve read on this fic or non was Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld.
|
| Half a life by Jill Ciment. |
| Hillbilly Elegy covers this |
|
The Great Gatsby
The Goldfinch |
| Unequal Childhoods is good if you want the roots of the issue. It’s a little dated now but nothing had changed. It’s considered a classic in the sociology cannon. |
| This is such an interesting topic, OP. What made you think of it, OP? |

White Trash
Class Caste |
| “Troubled” by Rob Henderson fits the bill perfectly. |
| Paul Tough -- The Years That Matter Most. It explores the college experience and class. |
m This guy thinks marriage solves all class woes. Very nearsighted book. He’s a sadsack. |
|
If you’re into classics
Great Expectations. It’s a main topic of the book Pride and Prejudice. From the very first line of the book. Other books by Austin |
|
Wanted: Toddler’s Personal Assistant by Stephanie Kiser is a page turner!
Nonfiction and out this week |
| Not exactly but close enough- Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. Was required summer reading for DS but I also read it and it was excellent |
