Can you get an expedited passport if you already mailed yours in for renewal?

I mailed my passport in last month for renewal. I know they processed it as the check was deposited almost 3 weeks ago. I have been checking the mail daily and have no passport. I’m trying to go on a last minute trip next week. My friends have told me that you can get your passport in a day if you have travel plans. On the actual website, there is life or death, which this is not. Another friend said that you can contact your senator.

Would you try to get one of these one day turnaround passports?

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Yes you can get the last minute passport while still in process for a regular one. You need to call to make an appointment, it can be hard to get one.

I'd call the passport agency tomorrow to check on status. Recent turnarounds have been in the 3-5 week range for normal processing. It may be almost done and going out tomorrow or Friday.

I contacted my Congressman's office when I desperately needed my passport to be renewed in a short timeframe and once they reached out to the passport office, my renewal magically cleared and was sent out to me the next day.

You can expedite at any time. Whether it is worth it or not depends. Call the number. I have gotten “real” people who were very helpful.
