DH's and Back Scratches

Anonymous
Does anyone else's DH need his back scratched almost nightly? My DH has asked for a back scratch before bed every night for a the past five days, and while I don't mind I'm wondering if this is just a guy thing, or if my DH is just a very itchy guy.

I love a good back scratch. In my case I think perimenopause has made my skin dry, but that's probably not why your DH craves it.

My husband loves it but it gives me the ick to do it.

Just get him a bamboo back scratcher? DH keeps one by his side of the bed.

No, but I "need" my hair brushed and combed a couple times a week. Dh lovingly does it and I give him shoulder rubs. That's what loving couples do.

I almost always go to sleep before DH. Part of our nightly routine is that he chats with my while I get ready and then he scratches my back once I get in bed, kiss goodnight (sometimes more).

I dunno, my back is itchy? Or just a nice form of physical contact/ritual?

This is sweet. My husband will gladly rub my feet but I get second-person ick (is that a thing) because I wouldn't want to do it. So I project and make him stop.

+1 not sure why but grosses me out too.

“Need”? What? You can’t brush it yourself?

Out of all the things couples do and this is what pushes you over the line? It’s a light nail caress, not ripping off large, white back-ne heads.

My DS loves his back scratched. I loved it because he went through a period in his teens where he didn’t want me to touch him, but still loved his back scratched.

My husband loves it. My dad did as well.

I appreciate a good back scratch but don't desire one often.

I don’t think my husband has ever asked for a back scratch, nor have I. He likes a shoulder massage once in a while.

I think it just depends on what your skin is like. I sometimes ask for a back scratch now and then because I am prone to dry and itchy skin. Usually I ask most often in the winter and my DH is happy to oblige. He never asks me but I think he just has different kind of skin that doesn't get itchy. I would do it if he asked.

To the people saying it grosses them out -- I guess that's a valid reason not to do it. But it's a form of physical intimacy that is so nice for couples. Like one of the nice things about being married is having someone who can scratch that spot on your back you can't reach or apply sunscreen to your back. I guess it's not a requirement of marriage but it's a nice perk that it seems kind of sad to give up.
