Sandy Hill Camp

Considering for next summer. Looking for reviews of those who attended this summer.

My daughter has attended for several years. I think it’s well run. She has really enjoyed it - gotten to do really fun activities like sailing, water skiing, etc.

My kids have gone for years and we love it. Very well run and it is my younger son’s favorite 2 weeks of the year.

DD went for the first time this past summer and loooooved it! She went with one friend but came home with a bunch of new ones. They lake activities were a highlight as was the cooking class she took (random I know!)

Both my kids go and love it. What are your specific questions?

Tons of Arlington kids go. Never heard anything negative about it.

OP here. My main goal was to identify any red flags, but thank you for offering more specifics.

We are in MoCO. DS would be starting at age 14. He's never done sleepaway camp before and can be shy. He was intrigued because of the water activities (sailing, waterskiing, etc) because he'd like that. I think he'd be inclined to do 2 weeks because the accomodations are so much nicer.

Any feedback on those thoughts?

On the two weeks vs one, you’re right the accommodations are nicer. The two week campers stay in the lodges (two floors, two “cabins” per floor) and they are air conditioned, with a bathroom on each floor. The rooms for the cabins are rustic I guess (plywood walls). The one week campers stay in much simpler little cabins with nets halfway up the walls. More of what I expected as a camper myself from childhood. They have to walk outside to the bathroom and of course, no AC. This year, my daughter was there during the 100’+ days - she was in the AC lodge, but they moved the one seekers into the gym and activity center to sleep at night (sleeping bags etc).

My kids have been going for over 10 years and my older one was a junior counselor. I can't say enough good things about this camp. The directors are phenomenal, the staff is well trained, and the facilities/site is beautiful. My younger daughter spends her whole year just waiting for her next session at camp. She loves horseback riding, the social aspects, the ropes course, etc. My kids have all kinds of inside jokes from the skits and songs. High recommend
