Shower glass panel

Can you tell me what the pros and cons are? We are about to remodel our small master bathroom and wil be replacing bathtub with a shower. I was hoping to get a glass panel rather than a glass door (like it much better visually) but have een reading that it may not be practical (water splashes on the floor, it's cold, it's very expensive to get installed). Should I get sliding doors instead?

I went to a show room and picked out three different types of shower doors and the company gave me estimates for each. IME, the "frameless" panels vs. the ones with tracks were more than twice as expensive. This was going into a room for a kid that was bad about splashing water (why we were replacing the shower curtain with glass) and I didn't think an open panel would be good for that reason, anyway.
