Infertility Support and Discussion
| I got a large black/blue bruise on my stomach from an injection. I've given myself about 15 shots and this is the first I've had any bruising. Has this happened to anyone else? Anything to worry about? Thanks! |
| I had a couple of bruises from the SQ injections and they went away, the nurses reassured me that I wasn't doing anything wrong just hit a capillary which is impossible to avoid when giving multiple injections. good luck |
| I get a lot of bruising. It just depends where you hit. Try to avoid that area until it is healed. Also, I find that putting pressure on the injection site helps to minimize the bruising. |
| Baby aspirin also increases bruising. |

I find that my bruising is actually better if I avoid putting pressure near the injection site. I've also used arnica montana gel (available at Whole Foods and YES organic market) on the injection site to heal bruises faster; my MFM rec'd it.
I got a good tip from my doctor about minimizing bruising when they draw blood from inside your elbow: hold that arm up in the air after they draw blood for 15 min. Don't carry your purse on that shoulder. Worked for me! |

Be certain that you are hitting the skin with the needle at a 90-degree angle ( a right angle). The needle should not be "tilted" at any other angle.
In addition, it shouldn't make a difference for bruising, but-- for home injections it was always easiest for me to use a very fine needle. |
