Cities to explore in Europe for a monolingual family (English)

We live in the Blue Ridges a few hours outside of the DMV and often pick cities to explore when not selecting beach locales. We have decided to try to explore more of Europe. We started with London and had a wonderful time. We ended up visiting twice to cover more ground.

Are there other cities you would recommend where you can get by rather easily speaking English?

Prague

Most of the Scandinavian countries, and Iceland. We went last year. *Everyone* spoke English, and it was fantastic.

Ireland and Scotland, although, their English can be hard to understand if the accent is very strong.

Dubrovnik, Split.

We don't speak any Slavic languages, so we had to get by on English.

You can get by in most popular cities without speaking the language, especially if you're sticking to touristy spots.

Get the Google translate app and you can go anywhere. I traveled in Europe before the internet for 4 months and survived just fine. You'll be good

Munich is easily negotiated in English. Many places even have menus in English. Many Germans speak English very well as they are taught it in school.

Literally anywhere in Europe is fine. A lot of people speak english, and if not, you have google translate. And if that doesn't work, a big smile, pointing, some charades, etc works. Learning to communicate across languages and cultures is a wonderful experience!

Any major/touristy area in Europe is going to fine. We have struggled a bit in the countryside driving to different areas, but even then you can piece it together, especially with Google translate.

France - anywhere you'd go as a tourist they'll speak English. Just be sure to learn a few phrases of greeting, etc. to be polite.

Not to be snarky but…pretty much anywhere in the world. Bring your phone or a guidebook, get some basic phrases down, and you’ll be fine.

You will find English speaking people everywhere. Use Google translate if necessary. If you are struggling just be sure to smile and that will open up many doors.

it's actually really neat to visit somewhere that doesn't speak much English and try to get by without it. I miss those times. Almost everywhere speaks English now - main cities at least.

Just got back from a week in Copenhagen and Stockholm; it's beautiful and everyone speaks English. They're both also very kid friendly and generally easy to explore.
