| My hair is always frizzy and tangled, and I'm at the end of my rope. For the past year, it's been impossible to get a brush through it when it's dry. I can use a wide-toothed comb when it's wet, but never a brush and never while dry. It's not damaged according to my stylist. It's not curly according according to multiple curly FB and Reddit groups. I have a fresh cut with layers and some razoring, so it should lie nicely. I've tried switching up my shampoo, deep conditioning masks, sleeping on a silk pillowcase - nothing works. Just had annual bloodwork done six months ago, and nothing showed up. Any other suggestions? |
| Silicone product and heat protectant and then straighten it? Braid it before bed? |
It's already straight. |

The unbrush is amazing for all types of hair. I have thick 3b hair.
I have tried every brush including the denman and this is the best. https://www.target.com/p/unbrush-detangling-hair-brush-lilac-light-purple/-/A-90919934 |
Interesting, will try, thanks! These tangles are horrible... |
| Can your stylist brush it? |

My hair is much tanglier in middle age because it's finer. For people who experience genetic/age/androgenic related hair loss, the hair follicle doesn't just close up shop one day. Over a period of many hair cycles, the hair becomes thinner and weaker. It's called miniaturization. In male pattern baldness of course eventually the hairs miniaturize until they're non-existent but it happens to women too.
I never needed to brush my hair until this started happening to me, but my much finer hair is like velcro that sticks to each other even though the texture isn't visually very different. |
Yes, because she blows it out. I air dry, because it's super thick and frizzy and takes forever for me to dry myself. |
Oh, this is interesting. I don't have any hair loss, though - can this still happen? |
| I haven't brushed since midway HS. It hurts too much. I finger comb as needed. For a while it was better to finger comb when wet/slimy with conditioner but for the last number of years I wait until it's dry to do it- it hurts less. |

My daughter has long, fine hair that tangles instantly unless it's in a braid. Managing it has been difficult all these years, until she started puberty. Her hair is thickening ever so slightly, but just enough to make it less tangly.
It's interesting to watch. When her hair was more difficult, I used oils instead of conditioners in her hair, OP. |
What products do you use? Shampoo, conditioner, oil, gel, hairspray…? Any photos online similar to your hair type, might help suggestions! |
Google Lens brought up this (mine is longer, but again, I get regular trims, so there's no damage to the ends): https://www.reddit.com/r/PhotoshopRequest/comments/11xvdwo/i_took_this_photo_to_get_an_idea_of_how_id_look/ Currently using Amika Mirrorball shampoo, a small amount of Suave conditioner on the ends, and Aveda Botanical Repair serum. |
In general, frizzy hair is dry hair. Your hair texture sounds like it’s changed (and honestly it’s probably a bit wavier than you think if it has that much weight and frizz). What about using both a regular and leave in conditioner? Ok, what happens if you comb it wet (you can use a denman if you’d like), leave in something like hairdresser’s oil prep spray, and let it air dry? Why do you think you need to brush it dry? I think a lot of people can’t/shouldn’t brush their hair dry (at least, not the rapunzel like boar brushes). |
| Then don't brush it when it is dry. Think! |
