| How do you get in one? What if you’re already a FT fed? Do you have to resign? Or can you do a detail? |
| I know someone who was working in the private sector for 2 years, but had previously worked for the agency in a GS role, and got asked to be on the transition team, so resigned her regular job. Ended up getting an appointment in the new administration. |
a transition team would be on the campaign payroll, so no, you cannot be a federal employee and work as part of a partisan campaign. you'd be hoping for a political appointee position afterwards. don't think it's worth ditching a solid career over, but you do you. |
| They do have FEDs as part of the transition team (s) so its not 100% campaign payroll as the government kicks in resources (space, knowledge/SMEs, etc). I have had several friends and coworkers as part of the PTT and its a detail but fairly high profile so you are really "selected" to go and not something you apply to. |
How do you get selected? |

| If you have to ask..... |
The person who’s been asked to head up the team for the specific agency knows you and asks you to do it, or someone they have asked to be on the team knows you, etc. |
