Reading another recent thread made me wonder—do any local summer swim leagues use blocks or is that an outdated practice due to safety and liability concerns? I know MCSL and NVSL don’t allow them, but have no idea about other leagues. |
Maybe I am misunderstanding but blocks are not outdated nor unsafe if the pool is the correct depth for them. The issue with many NVSL and MCSL pools is that they are too shallow for blocks. Some are even too shallow for side dives and require in water starts. Blocks are generally seen as an advantage and usually lead to faster times.
I believe CCSDL (country club swim and dive) uses blocks at least sometimes. |
Didn’t someone say that kids are diving into pools 2.5 ft deep in nvsl? That’s not advisable for a deck dive let alone a dive from a block. Surprised that the swim clubs’ liability insurance tolerates this. |
