Anybody use no conversation on Uber?

Anonymous
It feels kinda rude but I have had really annoying drivers on my trips to and from airport lately. Would like to be polite but not have a crazy conversation for 45 minutes.

I have when needing a minute to decompress. It was lovely.

Request “cold” too. Bliss.

Do it all the time. I'm on calls all the time for work so I need time when I'm traveling for business to be left alone and I don't owe it to a stranger to chit chat. Many uber drivers drive dozens of people a day/week. They see it often- don't even give it a second thought.

Every single time

You people are not nice and/or too tightly wound. What’s wrong with a little chitchat? It’s not like you’re trying to psychoanalyze each other.

I didn't know it was an option until recently. I wish I had known a year or so ago when I took an Uber from my house to a friend's party in the farest flung part of NW DC and the female driver talked the entire time, including details of one her children getting killed in a gang dispute. I was (and am) deeply sympatetic to anyone losing a child, and told her as much, but it was inappropriate for an Uber ride. Now I know to choose the no conversation option on Uber.

I have a chauffer and do not use Uber or Lyft.

Honestly, I would rather psychoanalyze the driver than make mundane chit chat with him about where I’m from, or where I’m going, or how bad the traffic is here lately.

I don’t use it because it feels rude, though I definitely don’t want to chat. But if you don’t use it do drivers think you DO want to chat, and make an extra effort to talk?

So much antisocial behavior these days. Don’t talk to ride share drivers, don’t talk to neighbors, don’t interact with anyone in public. Hardly good modeling for our children.

So you are totally useless to this conversation, yet here you are.

What does her gender have to do with anything?

She can't afford therapy. She needed to talk. Be kind.

I didn't know it was an option. I always get in and pretend to sleep. This seems way easier!

I bet the drivers LOVE no chat. Otherwise they feel like they have to make friends to get a good tip.
