Fitter and Faster

Has anybody had their DC under 12 done any of the fitter and faster courses? I want to enroll DS but wanted to know if it is worth it.

We didn't find it worthwhile. Our experience was several years ago although I don't think their instruction model has changed much. Too short a time and not enough individualized feedback to have much long-term impact. YMMV.

Meeting some of the Olympian instructors is cool but otherwise a waste of money.

My DD did one last summer during August and that was the only one she found to be worthwhile (she’s done a few others). It was focused on her best stroke and the instructor had been a specialist in that stroke so she got some really good feedback from her. Unlike the other ones she’s done they also separated the kids into lanes based on their ability (they started moving kids around during the first day, it was a 2 day clinic) and she found that to be helpful because her lane focused on more advanced instruction. It also helped that it was during the down period so gave her a chance to get back in the water.

Depends on what your swimmer is trying to accomplish. The camps can get swimmers excited and inspired to compete after meeting some swim stars. But as far as actual technique and race strategy? Not as much.

We did not find it incredibly worthwhile. I’d recommend collegiate camps instead. The swim camps put on by Navy and UVA far exceeded Fitter and Faster.

No, not worthwhile.

My son also did one with an instructor who is a former Olympian in that stroke. He got some really good feedback and tips to refine his strokes. But he thought the clinic was too long. It could have been shorten because the instructor also shared a lot of personal stories during the 2-day clinic.
