$23,000 for a 14 SEER Heat Pump

Anonymous
That's the quote for the HVAC to an 1000 sqf addition we are putting on the back of our house in upper NW. Ductwork to new family room, two baths and a large master suite included.

I don't know anything about these prices but that seems insanely high. Am I wrong?

I will for sure, just bracing myself if this is ballpark. I don't know why but I was expecting about half that.

Twelve years ago we replaced the gas furnace and ac compressor for the original portion of the house (also about 1000 sqf) and it was 13,000.

The prices have jumped up a lot in the last 3-4 years. With the ductwork 23k doesn’t seem bad. But are you going with a 14 seer for a new addition? Why not put in a variable speed and high seer 2 stage?
Anonymous
It’s probably the labor for the duct work if it’s custom. Shop around.

Sounds ridiculous. If your house is a mansion, I guess they see dollar signs.

Sounds about right given that this is a new install + ductwork.

Go ask reddit.com/r/hvac and see what they say. You sound out of touch.

Heat pumps don't work great in this area, why a heat pump?

You clearly do not know much about HVAC installs or the current market. You may be able to get it for a bit less but This is not a "ridiculous" quote at all.

+1. Sounds reasonable to me but get a few more estimates

It seems a little high. The system itself would be around 15k

False. Why spread misinformation?

DC is pretty much the ideal environment for heat pumps. Cooling loads are roughly the same as heating loads, winters are generally mild.
