Alternative lifstyles

This is not necessarily about homosexuals.
Has anyone seen a relationship that was way out of the "norm", like someone that is much older, or much younger, or socially not "acceptable" in your crowd, an employee, or maybe even a priest?
These things remind me of that movie, The Thornbirds, no end.
I know someone in a similar postion, and they are obviously in love, but not open, sad.

The important questions are, was there a wedding, who paid for it, how much, and did the bride(s) wear strapless wedding gown(s).

Oooh, I'm reading World Without End by Ken Follett and it sounds just like Caris and Merthin! Talk about forbidden love--a nun and a skilled laborer.

That German movie The Reader was like that. Was not overly impressed with Ms. Winslet's acting though.

I think your title is a bit deceiving. None of those things you mentioned are "alternative lifestyles" (nor is homosexuality- a lifestyle is veganism or yachting or something, not who you love- that's a LIFE) they're just relationship taboos.

That being said, being closeted about anything is a wear on a person, being closeted about a relationship is a strain on relationships- not just the two people in love, but also just keeping a secret about oneself that's so big... it is exhausting. One doesn't want to think that their partner feels shame in their being together, so it can and often does eventually lead to a breakup, or a "coming out."

I say consenting adults who aren't hurting others- go for it. Life is too short for shame.

You know, I think that by "coming out" he felt committed.

I know someone who was 21 dating a 55 yr old man, with 8 kids. It went downhill really quick.

I know someone who was 45 with a 70 year old "friend". They are still "friends" 10 years later.
Remember Henry and Maude, makes me want to cry.

I know a woman who is 68, PhD, retired from a long career in academe and is semi-living with a blue collar man who is 23 years younger. You would never guess by looking at her as she looks like a stereotypical academic. I haven't met him but fantasize that he must have something major going for him, and I am a little jealous of her.
