Thanks! We are looking for places to live and want to know more infor regarding this school system. TIA

QO is NOT one of the highly or moderately well regarded high schools in the county.

OP, this board is dominated by a very pro-Bethesda/Potomac crowd. QO has a different demographic (and the test scores as well) but I know many kids that have done nicely there.

I'm in the Wootton cluster right now, but would very happily send my kids to Q.O. It's a very nice school.

Here are rankings for montgomery county md hs.

Churchill, wootton and whitman are the highest ranked.

BTW QO is not a school system. The system is Montgomery county. QO is a cluster within that system.

Schooldigger is a piece of crap (seriously, their data is often wrong), and don't you think it's rather pedantic to point out that QO is not a separate school system, when the PP was just referring to QO and the schools that feed into QO?

QO is a fine school.

Well since you did not like school digger how about Newsweek?

http://www.newsweek.com/feature/2010/americas-best-high-schools/list.html

or Us News
http://www.usnews.com/listings/high-schools/maryland

QO may be okay but it is not at the same level as Churchill, Wootton, Whitman or Walter Johnson.

And no it is not pedantic (meaning to point out small details) as the person may not be from this area and understand how the school system works. Having moved from another state where the school system was by town, MoCo is huge and makes for a very different feel.

Thanks for trying to make me feel bad. The person can use the information and make their judgements. I was trying to be helpful. You were just trying to be mean.

Here is a link to information on all schools within MoCo.

Interestingly the survey results from the students rated their schools as follows:

Overall how would you rate your school?
A B

Whitman 49.4 41.3
Churchill 39.5 44.9
Wootton 33.4 48.9
WJ 35.9 49.0
QO 15.7 50.8

It would seem that QO students are less satisfied with their school than the others.

Or maybe that Whitman and Churchill students are impressed with themselves, and QO students have internalized that they aren't attending one of the magic "Three Ws" that some in Montgomery County tout. Not trying to make you feel bad, but you are creating a misimpression if you suggest that QO isn't even moderately well regarded within the coutny.

QO is just not in the same league. If you don't like the survey, how about % of AP tests taken and % who scored 3 (needed for college credit)

WC 86.8 77.9
Wootton 88.4 79.2
Whitman 82.3 78.2
WJ 74.9 65.5

QO 63.4 49.2

There is a clear difference and sorry if that bothers you but the "W"'s as you mention are higher performing schools. QO isn't bad, it is just not at the same level.

It doesn't bother me, but it does amuse me that you're far more interested in detailing what QO is not (i.e., Whitman, Churchill or Wooton) rather than providing information about the school's qualities. Do you really think you're being helpful, or are you just troubled by the thought that anyone might loose sight, even for a moment, of the fact that the W's have the highest test scores in the county. I think it's pretty clear. Enjoy your super-expensive real estate.

The qualities of the schools are pretty obvious. They have high achieving students who are doing very well, like their schools and have an excellent environment for learning. Your last line shows what the root of your hostility really is. FYI, not all real estate in these zip codes is super expensive. We live in a TH and sacrificed a lot to afford to give our kids an opportunity in the district we felt was best.

You made your choice, we made ours.

Correct. But you're the one who now goes out of your way to tout your district and bad-mouth others to justify the sacrifices that you think you've made.

Oh for God's sake. You don't have to go to the best school in MoCo to still get a great education and have a wonderful high school experience. It's a great school.

~The Wootton poster again.
