I haven’t had my period since October. But yesterday it came back with a vengeance. I feel like I must be setting some kind of a world record for the oldest woman to still get her period
|
| This might be the last. I thought I was done then after a year, my last at 56.5 |
| I'm 56.5 and I haven't skipped a month yet. Every 26 days now (used to be 30). I yearn to miss just one month. I hope it stops quickly and suddenly |
what looks like a "period" in women in menopause can be cancer. Most likely not in your case but look this up just so you can be informed about the phenomena. |
+1. My obgyn did endometrial biopsies to check for cancer after 50. |
| OP here: I was pretty regular before they stopped but I will mention endometrial biopsies at my next doctor’s visit. |
| I have a 64 year old friend who still gets her period. |
I'm 55 and this is me. Had the endometrial biopsy a few months ago, and all clear. The biopsy was quite painful though (internet said it wasn't supposed to be). Felt like someone scraping my skin off - internally. |
I’m 57 just happened too . My labs said not menopause yet. Sorry I’m right there with you hoping for the end of the bleeding.
|
| What kind of labs did you get that said not in menopause yet? |
| FSH, estradiol and LH I think was the 3rd |
Mention it, but fyi the rule is if you have no bleeding after 12 months, you are in menopause. If you then have any bleeding, you are supposed to call your doctor and see if you should get en endometrial biopsy/US. |
I thought the blood tests confirm menopause once you’ve stopped having your period for 12 months? If you’re still bleeding, the tests don’t mean anything (including are you in peri) because hormones can fluctuate daily and person by person? |
Oh no. I'm sorry. |
| Almost 57 and have never skipped. It's been a brutal 10 years of bleeding/anemia. I just had a myomectomy for a fibroid which actually hasn't even reduced the bleeding. I guess we're outliers |
