Some interesting but discouraging data in this global warming report that reflects data through June 2024. We have experienced 13-consecutive months of record-high global temperatures. The report analyzes warming trends across various periods. Across the last 30 years, the estimated warming trend in North America is 0.76F per decade. If this trend were to continue in the future, this would lead to a 8F increase over 100 years.

Folks are flying in record numbers.
"I must see that leaning tower before we all melt away!!!" No one seems to care. Ugh. |
Really? So you’ve never flown before? So self righteous! Give me a break, I will go where I want. |
ooh the unregulated corporations doing all the damage and making all the money for shareholders have sure fooled you that you can do something about it. |
Individuals flying for vacation contributes little to overall CO2 compared with industrial waste. |
Humans, and other creatures, will evolve to adapt to higher temperatures. Life finds a way, right? |
+1 And when the industry tries to shave off some carbon usage by having more efficient air traffic, people complain about the noise, sitting on the tarmac too long, etc. |
Yes, but evolution might not be able to ramp up to the timetable that is needed. At least for humans. |
Too bad, then. Survival of the fittest, and all. |
Governmental action is also crucial. Individual decisions are not the main problem here. |

Two once in a thousand year events in a month. No wonder insurance rates are skyrocketing. |
So we are clear - we're not going to stop global changes from happening. We are all too used to luxury and convenience. In order to impact enough changes, everyone will have to sacrifice our pleasures and conveniences and that will never happen. It doesn't matter how you slice, dice, sell and wish, it just won't.
SO - do everything sooner rather than later. Travel and see the places you have always wanted to see. This nonsense about not flying and not using A/C. Whatever. Prepare for that day coming soon when we will all be forced into change. That's just how human beings work - change is not something that comes naturally to us. We are either forced to change or we we are forced to change ![]() |
I don't think it'll be 50 or 25 years before big troubles. I think we've reached the tipping point already. This whole 2100, 2050, 2030 year markers are a joke. It's 2024 and we're at like 115 degree weather over summers, 1 - 1000 year floods repeating in the same places. I'm looking at like 2-3 years before we're all looking at repeat disasters consistently throughout most of the world. What I think will happen is that those who have money will fare far better than those that do not. It will be much more a survival of the richest. I think life will find a way for those who can afford to shelter out of the outdoors and afford to eat truly delicious meals v just being able to eat to survive. We're looking at inflation on a level that is driven by not the markets but by survival. It won't all be in effect in 2-3 years of course but we'll start to see more of it in the coming years and I think within 5 years we will a lot of it feel the financial effects of a global climate crisis. I think one of the reasons why everything already has become so much more expensive has been because of global climate challenges. We're seeing already cocoa and coffee price adjustments. Fruits and vegetables are next. Meat for sure. We will see it in food and then we will see it in the kind of shelter we have - location and type of housing/community. We will see it in utility costs and clothing. Climate change is more than just weather. |
The largest growth in emissions is third world countries. Do you think the developed world should tell the third world that they aren't allowed to industrialize? |
