| Is anyone familiar with the process of retaining a totalled car with major cosmetic damage in Maryland? If it is reported by the insurance company as totalled (cost to repair is more than 75% of value), do we have to do a full Maryland safety inspection (like the kind you do when buying a car or bringing one in from out of state) to be able to drive it again, and if so, do we have any chance of passing it with major dents and scrapes on it? Thanks for any insight! |

Dents and scrapes are cosmetic damage.
As long as all the items on the inspection list (including all lights and lenses, plus glass ((windshield/windows)) are working, and parts aren’t falling off the car, it will pass. An inspection makes sure the vehicle is mechanically safe to operate. Not be pretty to look at. |
Just checking that you're familiar with the inspections in MD, right? They can be super picky but if you have recommendations for good places to go, please share. |
