MD clubs with later evening practices?

Anonymous
DD (rising 8th grade) is a not-fast year-round swimmer but wants to try to eventually swim for her HS team. She would like to increase club days per week this year but needs evening practice slots. So many clubs seem to park this age group at 4pm, maybe because they are trying to get the high-performance swimmers right into the pool rather than leaving time for other extracurriculars (which I totally understand, but that's not DD). Anyone know of viable alternatives in MD?

Sea Devils uses the JCC on M/W/F evenings. Their Silver group practices 7-8pm. Saturday morning all the sites combine to practice at Holton. Also check out the new QOSA is that’s closer to you. They have better times.

Look at RMSC sites, their HS groups are right after school, MS groups typically later.

PAC at Fairland/UMD practices late (8p-9p) for most kids (even younger kids are 7-8.)

TIBU has a high school prep group. Not sure what HS you feed into, but some are super competitive and difficult to be in the mix only swimming a few times a week.

Rising 8th graders are 13, which is “senior” for RMSC. Those groups often practice at 4:00 which is tough for a MS student to make.

The schedule is dictated by the school schedules. High schools get out earlier and can start activities earlier. Older high school swimmers can also drive, not needing a parent ho,e from work to take them. Elementary aged kids generally start later for similar reasons.

The ASA Senior Group practices from 8-9 M-Th and 1.5 hours each of Sturday and Sunday, all at Stone Ridge. They do have some 8th graders but I think you need to be 14. And they have done a lot of tryouts this summer so I don't know how much room they have. But you could ask.

They recently changed the requirements for the Senior group to be 14+ and must be in HS. I know because they changed it right after I brought my almost 14yo 8th grader to a trial practice.

Thanks for asking this question. My son is in the same place. What does PAC stand for? Having trouble finding info on this team. Thanks!

We swam with PAC for 8y. It is not a glitzy club (as evidenced by their website),but run by great people who really have the kids' best interest at heart, understand kids have other sports/homework/travel/etc, and the team has a variety of skill levels (everything from kids going to JO to kids who struggle.) It was a great team for my kid who likes to swim, but isn't uber competitive/played other sports.
