The US is the only developed country with a two-party political system. This is why we are in the situation we are in today...an embarrassment to the rest of the world, voting for someone just because you don't like the other option. The lesser of two evils is not the way to govern a country.
We have been complacent and not kept up with the times. Wake up! |
|
So you're saying the Constitution is an embarrassment?
We have a two-party system because of how the Constitution sets up our government. We do not have proportional representation. The winner-take-all Electoral College is the main reason why only two parties are viable. |
Please re-read what I wrote for better reading comprehension. I was referring to the situation of having Trump/Biden are our only two viable options to vote for. |
| The two party system is a safeguard against extremism and fracturization. |
Seriously? You think we don't already have extremism and fracturization? Sorry you are late to the game, but we are already living with extremism and fracturization. |
Go ahead, throw your vote away... |

I presume that the OP is the same person lobbing ad hominem attacks on everyone who defends a two party system.
And let me guess, you think that the Democrat party in its current state is just fine and Republicans (led by that terrible person Donald Trump) should just go away. Then we can have utopia with one party rule, a media that serves as the mouthpiece for that party, and dissenters can go to prison where they belong. Sounds great, let's go! |
OP here. You'd be wrong. I wholeheartedly support a two-party system....until extremism takes over from both sides and the only options are the extreme far right or the extreme far left which is IMHO where we are today. |
Then I can't figure out what direction you are suggesting the country should go, and who you want in power. But here is a tip, whenever you are snarky and sarcastic with people who disagree your or question you, like all of your responses on this thread, you lose your credibility. |
| Would ranked choice voting work and get a better result? |
It gets more moderate candidates into office. Billionaire oligarchs hate it because they like extremist puppets. But you need to do it on a nationwide basis to be truly effective. |
Yes. It was never intended to be a static document, never evolving, forever and ever. Our founding fathers were idealistic privileged young men in their 20s 250 years ago, and we venerate them like infallible gods. We have one of the oldest constitutions still in active use, and we are obviously falling behind in almost every way. It is an embarrassment. |
| what are you doing about it OP? Other than complaining on an anonymous forum. |
There's no extreme left in the US. Only extreme right. The rest of the developed world laughs at how ridiculously conservative our country is, and how poorly we care for our citizens. |
| Please move. |
