SUBJECT: 2024-25 Virginia State Cup Pioneers Collaborative Efforts Between U.S. Soccer Organizational Members

FROM: Virginia Youth Soccer Association

Members of VYSA:

VYSA is pleased to announce that Virginia is set to be the first state association to combine previously competing State Cups into a singular event co-hosted Virginia Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer!

VYSA is grateful to the leadership of US Club Soccer for their collaboration on this project that will provide the soccer clubs, teams and families in Virginia with a best-in-class event. This reimagined State Cup is open to competitive teams registered to VYSA/US Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer. There is a pathway for the top finishing teams from each sanctioning organization to participate further in the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series and US Club Soccer National Cup.

https://usclubsoccer.org/state-cups/ apparently because for US club soccer your not one of the 31 states that do. I'm more confused as ever as to why there are all these different organizations.

Same reason why there are so many different leagues regulated by different entities. $$$

Will ECNL, GA, and MLSNext teams enter into this state cup?

Looks like on the boys side, the semifinals/finals will be on November 16-17. Isn't that the likely date for the ECNL RL Virginia event? Wonder how that will work for the U17-U19 age groups for ECNL RL teams.

You must be new? Absolutely not, the clubs will send 3rd or 4th teams to this if they are a club big enough to have their top teams playing in those top three leagues.

At Arlington, RL teams were in the USCS State Cup. I am thrilled they will be combined and hope we continue in the competition. Finally we can play Alexandria Red again for the first time since u12.

It was stupid and mind boggling that multiple tournaments existed. Even it will surely exclude ECNL and MLS Next on the boys side, the competition got a lot more meaningful for us “second teamers.”

Curious if Arlington will now send White (3rd team) to the State Cup as well or if they now go to the Presidents Cup

I hope we keep red and white to the now combined state cup.

Another thing was that the USCS State Cup and RL Playoffs occurred at the same time and with nearly identical slates of teams. Now we can see a greater mix of teams

This is good news...we were new to travel soccer last year and initially impressed by our new club being "VA State Champs" only to find out there were multiple state championships and ECNL, ECN-RL, GA and MLS teams don't even compete in those tournaments anyways.

More clubs will have to perform instead of cherrypicking which state championship tournament to attend.
