Forbidden Fruit and the Classroom: The Huge American Sex-Abuse Scandal That Educators Scandalously Suppress
By James Varney, RealClearInvestigations July 10, 2024 Every day millions of parents put their children under the care of public school teachers, administrators, and support staff. Their trust, however, is frequently broken by predators in authority in what appears to be the largest ongoing sexual abuse scandal in our nation’s history. Given the roughly 50 million students in U.S. K-12 schools each year, the number of students who have been victims of sexual misconduct by school employees is probably in the millions each decade, according to multiple studies. Such numbers would far exceed the high-profile abuse scandals that rocked the Roman Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts of America. This is what surprises me. The numbers of students being sexually abused in public schools is stunningly high, yet we only talk about Catholic priests for some reason. |
And you think kids aren't being sexually abused in private schools as well, where there's even less independent oversight and accountability than in public schools? |
|
Is this f'n thread going to turn into a public vs. private education thread?
Folks, it's a problem everywhere. |
Read the article! “The problem is not confined to public schools, although the public school student population dwarfs that of private and parochial schools. Incidents of sexual misconduct at tony schools like New York’s Horace Mann, or at St. George’s in Rhode Island are but two of the most publicized examples of the problem.” |
Yeah no. |
| Sounds like you're not a fan of public schools, OP. |
|
Im not giving a right wing rag a click. So far there’s no evidence in the little bit you copied and pasted, but if there is here is my answer: adults who violate the minds and bodies of children should face investigations, be fired and should be tried in a court of law.
But I also volunteer in schools and think you and the Real Clear Wire are full of bunk and are projecting your issues. |
|
There is concrete evidence, arrests and convictions of hundreds of "pastors" from Evangelical and catholic churches and their schools.
We see the headlines on a daily basis, eventhough Jeff shut the long running thread in this forum down. If there were a rash of public school kids being sexually abused, in this social media era, I think we would be hearing about it with more frequency. |
As pointed out repeatedly, it’s not just about public schools, but the government does have an increased obligation to track this data when we are talking about public employees on the taxpayers dime. Shameful to try to redirect this to be about OP than abusive staff. |
Uh, we do. |
The data is cited and it’s from Hofstra U. The journalist here is making the case for better mandatory reporting and disclosure. Why are you trying to blast Real Clear Wire for a call for greater transparency? |
Because the Catholic Church sues to keep predators free Catholic Church supports pedos So does the Baptist Convention Public schools are not the issue tax the churches Every single day in this country republicans sexually abuse children fact Hell duggars hell TLC Catholic Church lawsuits all over the country |
