Possession Based Soccer Is Boring

Just saw some clips from EPL games from the early 2000s pre-Pep. The game was so much more direct and attractive than the pointless possession-based play where the center backs kick it back to the goalie 20 times. Pep ruined the game.

Golf ⛳ is super exciting
Not to mention all-left turns Nascar 😉

Those actual 12 to 17 minutes of live action in football is the best
All the endless breaks and tv timeouts is beyond exciting for 3 1/2 hours

Baseball has me rocking in my seat for 4 hours

Might as well just watch track and field if you live but the ball and chase it down the field.

I watch soccer for the big box to box kick and the fast running!

Direct soccer is more exciting to watch that possession only. However switching between possession (to wear out your opponent) and direct (once your opponent is tired from chasing the ball) is light years better than direct only.

Unfortunately numbnuts that watch American Football try to equate speed and power only to Soccer. They watch what's happening on the field but they don't understand the chess match that's happening right in front of them.

The same could be said about watching any sport that you don’t know well. There is always a game within the game with lots of subtle strategies that are lost on the casual fans. Like all the pre-play adjustments and different personnel packages and route options that comes with American football, when the casual fan thinks it’s all just about speed and power. This is precisely why America is so far behind in soccer. Not enough people here understand the intricacies and it translates to the players and coaches.

You really do not watch soccer do you? EPL pre 2000 was trash. The majority of the scoring was from set pieces and it looked like rugby. Will take Klopp and Pep over kick in the box with a hope and a pray. Man City(65%), Arsenal(58%) and Liverpool(61.3%) are the top of the EPL and none pass it back to the goalie 20 times. Sheffield United(35%), Burnley(46%) and Lutin(41%) were at the bottom and played like pre 2000 EPL teams.

Hell when Man City pass back to Ederson the whole field is open but that is what you do not understand about the possession style of play. A 40 yard pin point pass to a player who can one touch control, shoot or pass the ball is possession style play. A 30 yard inaccuracy pass to a player who can not field a ball is a turn over.

This is like saying that you prefer American football just to do Hail Mary passes for all 3 downs. No short passes, no running game, etc.

Soccer is not a track meet. You’re the problem with American youth soccer. No skills and tactic development.

Please learn the game of soccer.
