I have a 13 year old who has one more year before high school, loves summer swim, and has been in club for several years. She’s fairly fast, but has other interests and does not want to put in the time that clubs demand at her level.
Are there options out there for a kid who wants to keep in shape for summer and high school swim but not wanting the full club practice schedule? |
Yes, lots of clubs have senior groups that practice 2-3 days a week.
Hard to give specifics without knowing which pools are closest to you. We are with Machine and they call this "Senior green" |
AAC has High School Sprint but that’s at Long Bridge so probably not appealing if you’re in Fairfax. |
Check out Fairfax Foxes and York. They both have a variety of groups, one of which probably fits your teen's needs. |
Mako has lots of options |
I think Mako has some 1 day per week options? Not sure if these are stand alone or intended to be in combination with another program though. |
York has a 2x a week option targeted at MS and HS. |
Our DS has been with Marlins for a few years -- will continue this winter with a M/W 8pm-9pm swim at Cub Run. It's enough to keep him moving and he generally doesn't complain about going! |
Centreville Swim Club has a once/week option on Sundays at GMU pool. Open to all ages. |
Also, Swim With Beth offers Sunday 7:30-830pm for 11+ year old swimmers. Focusing on start, turn, and stroke refinement. She often has a wait list but it’s a nice “lite” option.
