LAMB Charter school

What can anyone tell me about this school, good and bad?

Did you get in? Their lottery was yesterday. We applied based on feedback from families that it was like a private school for free. Unique combination of dual-language immersion (our family is bilingual) and Montessori. Only downsides we heard were logistics issues with new building - not at all unusual in DC - and staff seemed a bit overwhelmed at times.

We didn't get in. We'll try again next year.

Always interested in others' thoughts on this school.

We, luckily, got in after being waitlisted. We are thrilled so far. Our daughter is 3 1/2 and loves going. What else you can you ask for from children that age. We feel very fortunate. Additionally, our experience with the teachers has been VERY positive. The move to the expanded building (hopefully in January) will be welcome. The usual issues remian with transportation htough- it;d be nice if they had a bus system. 9/10

i live close to the new building. but it looks like it's not done.
any update on the facilities issue?
having waited for schools to get better i was kind of bummed that when a good school finally opened up near us, you already have to enter a lottery to get in.
does anyone know if they make any accomodations for people who live nearby?

No, admission is based soley on lottery and sets each class up with 50% spanish speaking and 50% non spanish speaking.
Admission has nothing to do with where students live, although living in DC is a requirement.

I called the school to request an application and to ask some questions. The staff was very rude and not helpful. Totally turned me off.

They did have an open house just yesterday (where they passed out applications and spent hours being very helpful and fielding all sorts of questions).

I am the PP that discussed the rude behavior. FWIW, I called on the day of an Open House. It was snowing and icing and there were closings in the area. All I could think was I could be calling about my child during inclement weather and this would be the attitude that I would be faced with.

All Schools put on a good face at Open House time.

FWIW, I just called the school and the person who answered the phone was pleasant and helpful. Here's what I learned:

1. The school's website is under construction, but should be up within a week or so.

2. Applications can be picked up at Open Houses scheduled for March 4th at 10am and March 18th at 5:30 pm.

3. The application deadline is April 10, 2009. The lottery is April 15th.
