Thoughts on Skye?

For a girl. Is it too artsy/hipster? I wanted an S name, and our last name is Scottish.

Not my vibe, but I don't think it seems too artsy/hipster. If anything it reads kind of meaningless.

You may have an annoying couple of years when all the kids in her class are Paw Patrol fans, just a heads up.

You could always do Skylar nn Skye

I think it’s fine especially given your Scottish ancestry and the Isle of Skye connection.

The Paw Patrol years will be potentially annoying, but those are short.

I like it. Only ever met one Skye before, my midwife.

I don’t love it, but it really doesn’t matter what we think. I will give you my experience, though. I chose my child’s name to be unique because I grew up with a very common 80s name and I didn’t want that experience for my kid. I chose an unusual name that is a variation on a popular name for my teen. it’s not so uncommon that a couple of kids haven’t had it through the years and a famous person has it, too. It isn’t a trailer trash sounding made up name. But my kid doesn’t love it and in the end, I think I would have been better going with something really classic. But I don’t regret it. I think with Skye there is a higher chance of people assigning stereotypes to it. Like you said, “oh your parents are hippies.” Or when she applies for a job, it definitely looks unserious on a business card. But she will always be remembered. Can you find an another s name?

I love it! Known a few with Skye as a middle name and only one with it as a first. Skylar is nice as well, prefer Skye.

I love it but it's definitely kind of artsy. I like artsy!

I also love the names River, Sunny or Sunshine, and Summer. I gave my DD a less hippie-ish name because my DH was never going to go for any of these but I still like them.

Don't do it. She will never be taken seriously. I like PP's suggestion of Skylar with Skye as a nn if you must.

I like it.

I disagree. Women generally aren't taken seriously but, i don't think it was because of their names.

I don't love it because that just isn't my kind of name. And I associate it with lice because one of my kids was in class with a girl named Skye who kept getting lice. Her mom would text the group chat about 2x a week saying "Skye has lice again! Check your kids!"
