2nd floor loft, do you want it for your new house?

| Some new houses in McLean have a loft area on the 2nd floor. Some people use it as a secondary family room, some use it as an office area because both husband and wife are working from home now. Do you think it is useful? |

| It is a flexible open space can be used as a late night family room before bed. Office or kids study area is another option. |

Most of new houses in McLean have 4 bedrooms 4 baths on the upper floor, a few have 5 bedrooms 5 baths. Are 5/5 more desirable? |

+1. I have lived in two houses with lofts, they are pretty but not useful. Also if they are attic lofts they get HOT. For guest room or office, I want a closed door. An open landing loke the pictures is more of a pretty book display spot or possibly a homework spot. |

My ideal would be 1 en suite on the main level and 4/4 upstairs. But otherwise yes, 5/5 is more desirable than 4/4 and a loft. |

| Growing up a friend of mine had a cook loft in the second floor, which was awesome for sleepovers. A bunch of girls would lay sleeping bags all over the floor and we could look out over the lower level. It was definitely a novelty, and I could see it being a cool hang out space. |

| We have a 2nd floor loft, furnished with theater seating and a large TV/soundbar. It's an alternative to other spaces equipped with TVs on other floors. It also has an enclosed deck off it. It's useful, not essential, and is just another space in the house like the bedrooms, offices, etc but unlike those is an open space more like the great room area on the main level or the rec room in the basement, but on the 2nd floor. |

| The second floor loft is a common feature in contemporary 70s houses in my neighborhood. Most are office areas or sitting rooms but the space seems wasted. One thing that's complicated is painting if you want to do colors--where do you literally draw the line/boundary between shades? In lieu of the loft my house has a giant master bath and that's much more valuable, IMO. |
