I'm no fan of the governor, but I think this could be a good thing. I am curious how it will be implemented at the higher grades. |
| Excellent news! Thank you, Youngkin! Sometimes you do great things! |

As a liberal left-wing person, I think this is one of the best things to happen in the last few years in public education in Virginia.
I hope this gets support across party lines from all parents. |
Ditto exactly. I’m a moderate D but would love to see phones banned and am glad to see this EO. |
I read the text of the EO and it talks about phone-free instructional time. FCPS currently has that policy for grade school, middle school, and high school - I'd like to see phone-free high school, as middle school is, rather than the current no-phones-during class. I'm not sure how this EO will be interpreted, for time such as lunch and passing periods. |
| FCPS will need to implement at least 5 new and unannounced teacher work days in order to figure out how to implement this /s |
I am a big fan of the gov. |
|
I love this!
What does it mean though? Keep cell phones in backpacks? Give them to the teacher for holding? |
| This is a very positive development, but it will be up to teachers and administrators to enforce consistently. Too bad it won’t be ready for the start of this school year. |
Oh please, not that. I don’t want to be responsible for over 100 cell phones each day. What happens if one gets stolen? Would I be responsible? |
| I asked my senior about this, and their response was it is a great idea, even though they like having their cell phone. |
| I hope the guidance will include recommended consequences for students who do not comply. The policy will only be as good as the school’s ability to enforce it. |

I think that the goal, of eliminating cell phone use in the school day, is an admirable one. I would like to think it's something both parties could agree on.
But at this point, it sounds like it comes with no directions about how to achieve it, no resources to support it, etc . . . What will be the definition of phone free? Cell phones in backpacks? Cell phones in lockers? Cell phones collected class by class? Kids are responsible for keeping cell phones out of sight? What will be the enforcement? How will keep kids from just transferring their social media to chromebooks or iPads or whatever they are using, and still accessing it in the classroom? I think until that's all hashed out, it's just a good idea. |
Did you read the EO? Do you have kids in FCPS right now? What grade? |
| Love the Republican overreach … way to Democrat |
