Immersion waitlist movement

Does anyone know when there will be movement on the immersion waitlist? There was a lot of movement in June…hoping there will be movement in August before school starts!

Often moves through October - people try the commute/logistics and then give up.

What I’ve seen and heard over the years is that there’s a bunch of movement through June and then it doesn’t really get going again until school is about to start.

We got a spot a few days before school started. DS had already gotten a non-immersion teacher assignment at that point.

So, I think there definitely will be some movement in the last week or two before school starts, especially with families out of the catchment who decide to stay at their home school and not deal with the commute.

in 2019 we got a spot at a spanish immersion school two weeks after school started (for Kindergarten)

You may even get a spot before first grade!

We got an offer off the waitlist above 50 last week to Page ES.

That’s amazing! I don’t think there’s as much movement for the other programs. Hopefully there will be movement in August or when school starts.

Oh wow I knew Page went high but didn’t realize it went high over the summer. That said I really get the sense that the “above 30 will remain on the waitlist” line in the results letter is pretty conservative, especially for those schools with 2 classrooms but even (from what I’ve heard) for Burnt Mills. Maybe Chinese has less movement though?

Happy Page SI immersion parent here in case anyone is considering it

Super! Glad to hear !
Do SI classes participate in the whole school activities? Do they spend lunch/break time with the rest of their grade?

We got a spot in November, so there is still hope.

Page principal is very strong and recently won county-wide PTA award. She is very supportive of SI program.

Many of the SI teachers at each grade level use a co-teaching model (one focuses on language arts, the other on math) so they can differentiate instruction.

SI classes have recess, whole-school activities like field day with the rest of the school.

Which school? And what number were you on the waitlist? Did your kiddo have a hard time transitioning from English to another language in November?
