What to wear to a summer Wedding?

Anonymous
Please help ladies, I don't want to spend too much $ on a new dress. Can I wear a summer dress to a wedding and maybe spend some $ on something to dress it up?
The summer dress I have is not very formal or dressy. It is conservative but not ugly.
Is it ok? What other options do I have. Buy a new dress? I am a size 8P and I need something under $50. Has anyone brought something lately that is nice to wear to a wedding that they can link to the site for me?

I feel pretty unattractive lately so that is another reason I don't really like to go shopping right now.

Thanks so much for any help...

Depends on the time of day and what the dress looks like, and the type of wedding (house of worship vs garden ceremony, reception location, etc).

A shirt dress (tank, polo) would be difficult to dress up for a wedding.

A basic dress (sheath, even the dress part of a suit) can easily be dressed up with shoes and accessories. I've found great necklaces at Target and Payless that receive a lot of compliments and take basic outfits to fun or chic. And I have admired friends' shoes from Payless.

I've also seen plenty of women wear a knee length skirt and blouse to day time weddings and look perfectly elegant. The trick is to not look like you are going to work, but to a fun event.

Check the dresses on target.com and newport-news.com for affordable ideas.
