Hi parents,
Reviewing my kid’ MAP-R score across a few years, it’s always been ~75th percentile. He is not ESL and reads and does grammar workbooks in spare time. How can I figure out where he is lacking and how to help. What type of questions are in MAP-R ? Thanks |
| Reach out to the Reading Specialist and ask to review the in depth MAP report. That said 75% is not bad or something. |
| Standardized tests are the most imprecise measure of ability. Something to keep in mind when reviewing scores. |
I agree. I’m an English teacher. My own child scored in the 70th percentile on the MAP. I’m not doing anything about it. She can read and write well, and that matters more. |
What if the score has been stagnant over the last few years and only inches up by a few points ? |

Any tests given on a computer to young kids should be taken with a grain of salt. Just watching students take these tests will show you this.

| What’s wrong with being in the 75th%tile? |
| When one of my kids was scoring in the low 90s I looked at the report and noticed their lowest score was vocabulary. I got them two things. An NWEA vocab list for their RIT score range and taught them 50 common greek and latin roots. Their score went up by 5%. |

Seriously? You are going to ask her to reach out to the Reading Specialist for 75% MAP-R? There are kids who truly need help in reading and this is just crazy Dcum talk. |
