Is there a point to shopping around for car insurance?

Or are all rates high?

Shop around. Mine went down substantially. Previous carrier increased my rate despite no claims. Got much better rates with Erie. Same with homeowners.

Wasn't worth it for me. They raised it the next day after getting me in. I also think they all are going way up, claims of no claims.
I was told that I have to fix other people's cars. Seems easier to cut spending somewhere else and earn more.
I pay $2000 for a small Japanese SUV. No claims or tickets ever and have had license since 1996.

My insurance just went up by 20% without anything bad happening to my driving record. Shopped around at 3 other large insurance companies and they all gave much higher rates. Ugh.

I was with Geico for years then lowered my premium substantially by switching to NJM (New Jersey Manufacturers). Get a quote if you can. It’s a small company so may not service your state but they do write policies in Maryland.

Call around and get a bundled policy (home, auto, umbrella, jewelry, boat, flood, etc.)

We are with USAA and they have not jacked up prices on us. We also have a 2019 Subaru and those cars have insanely cheap insurance rates due to all the standardized safety tech and low theft rates. Subarus are boring cars for boring people who make good decisions. Have a bundled policy and that gets us substantial discounts. But you need to be willing move everything to a new insurer.

If you are eligible for USAA, get that. Otherwise, I don't know the answer.

Mine went up too with no claims and I’m shopping around.

Why are they increasing so much?

We have a 2024 Tesla Y (3 months old) and a 2015 Corolla. The Tesla is $920 a year and the Corolla is $600 a year. We have a 1K deductible on both. USAA. We have had some claims in the past, but never our fault.

The small Japanese SUV previously mentioned is probably not rated highly for safety. I was surprised by the price for the Tesla insurance, but it is a very safe car with all the safety features. Everything is 5 stars for safety (highest rating possible). The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) is a good place to check on this.

We have all insurance bundled with USAA (homeowners, umbrella).

These rates are all so low when you consider how much Kenny car insurance can save you if you need to use it.

Erie is a nightmare. Someone totaled our car months ago, we agreed on a payout and no money. No car, no rental either.

This is exactly what we did. Once we added our 16yo DS, Geico's 6-month quote was higher than NJM's annual quote for the 3 of us.

You get what you pay for.

Personally, we stick with what we've had for 25+ years. Liberty mutual. Definatley not cheap. But when we have had claims, they pay out quickly and are easy to deal with. To reduce rates, we raise deductibles, because let's face it, I'm not filing a home owners claim for anything under $5-8K. Not worth it, as they would then drop you and it would be difficult getting new coverage. For autos, not filing for anything under $1-2K. The rate increases are not worth it.

Basically insurance is for major events, as it should be. Select your deductibles to reflect that.
Only thing we keep low is the "glass coverage". As the difference between $50 and $500 deductibles is about $40/year per car. All it takes is one glass replacement in 10 years to make it worthwhile.

I don't get why companies are not required to lower rates if you are a good driver. It's not fair good drivers have to subsidize bad ones.
