Car carrier suggestions

We have a mid sized SUV without it a roof rack. We need more space for a road trip but don’t know our options. Anyone have any product recommendations that don’t require installing a roof rack to the car?

You really need a roof rack if you plan on using a cargo carrier. The carriers that don’t require a rack will damage the finish on your car.

The soft carriers (like a big heavy duty bag that straps to the roof) are ok for occasional use - IF you follow the directions carefully and tighten the straps properly - but they are cumbersome and time consuming to pack/unpack and take on and off the roof. Plus, as the PP said, they’ll scratch if you’re not super careful - and most people aren’t super careful.

If you’re using it once or twice, maybe the cloth carrier is worth the hassle.

If you’ll be using it more than twice a year, I’d go roof rack.

It’d be a once a year thing for a 10 hour drive. The cost of a real roof rack isn’t the budget this year but on the radar for the future!
