europe in february?

Any ideas for a good winter destination in Europe? For 2 adults looking to spend only 1 week there (including travel, so we're hoping for somewhere with a direct flight from DC). We enjoy good food, interesting history and museums, unique architecture, cultural options (like orchestra concert, ballet, opera, etc.). Bonus if there's a nice day trip to somewhere beautiful - like coastal town, mountain town, etc.

We are not afraid of cold/rain/etc., but would like to give ourselves a fighting chance of 50-60 degree weather.

What do you think? We've considered Paris with a day trip somewhere, Lisbon, or southern Spain (Seville? Granada?).

Paris with a day trip to Brussels/London/Geneva. You don't want to be flying for a day trip.

I would give up the nonstop flight and go to Rome, Barcelona or Venice (Carneval is late this year) (or look beyond Europe and try some place in SA like Rio or Buenos Aires).

In Feb, I was in Bologna and Athens. Fantastic weather. No crowds. Go for it!

Tenerife or Gran Canaria can be your best bets in February.

Athens, Lisbon, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid and Istanbul all have nonstops from DC.

If you can go slightly out of Europe, Casablanca does too and that would be fun.

Honestly, Ireland in February is not bad at all. West coast is blustery but other than that, it's considered springtime there in Feb...like flowers blooming everywhere and highs in the 50s/60s? I've been in February many times (parents from there so have done maybe Feb break trips and husband also from there so we take kids occasionally for that week). Need layers and a rain jacket but we've been down to short sleeves at times. Could do Dublin, Kilkenny, Tipp, Waterford, maybe up to Belfast for a day. no crowds. that being said, you can also get totally horrible weather so it just depends.

If you haven't been to Paris (or haven't been recently), definitely do there. Prekids we'd go to Europe regularly in the winter. The museums and other tourist sights are much less crowded in the off season.
