“Reservoir District” new indoor pool

I went to it yesterday. First of all, there is way too much hardscaping around the plaza and no shade. There are two fountains kids can play in but one was already not working.
The building and pool are beautiful. BUT why would DCbuold such a tiny pool? It’s essentially 3 lap lanes, 25 yards, and an adjacent walk in kids pool.

They are building hundreds of units adjacent, plus all the families in Bloomingdale’s and park view.

Just seems like such a wasted opportunity to actually build for the future growth and demand.

Well they want to leave enough space for bikes lanes into the pool.

They build the Hearst pool small too. I assume that they cannot staff bigger pools or the maintenance is too difficult.

We went the other day and that pool is small. The bigger issue is there is no shade at all around the playground or open spaces. It was like walking in the surface of the sun. There was no one using the space at all.

So small. It's stupid .

Turkey Thicket and Takoma Aquatic are both relatively close. And both of those are also closer to metro stops and have parking. It's not a major hardship for people in the area.

Choosing beggars…buy your own pool, dude

This is the standard size public pool across the district. LOL at the complaint the Hearst Pool is too small....it took every bit of political fiber to get that implemented despite the racist cries that people from all over the city would be going there and the parking would overrun the neighborhood.

In hindsight, that pool has been a godsend, and most of the patrons are walking or biking to it.

Sure. But once they made the decision to build it, they should have made it a proper size. It's teeny

Maybe if people hadn't spent three years opposing it, they would have.

It seems if you are going to build a pool and staff a pool, the cost for it to be larger would be negligible. What's the point of such a tiny pool? Our HOA in Virginia has a much larger pool just for our neighborhood.

Your HOA probably sponsors a swim team that competes against other teams, and as such, needed a pool that can host said competitions. DC pools aren't like that.

They probably need more life guards to staff a small pool. A bigger pool might end up having to close.
