This is disgusting. The child rapist and Dutch organizations have no shame. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/dutch-volleyball-steven-van-de-velde-paris-olympics-child-rape-conviction/ |

Western Europe is notorious for underplaying rape and violence against women/children.

I'm French and can only speak for France, but the above is sadly correct. This young athlete should have had his career nipped in the bud by his conviction. Of course he can seek redemption, he's young and there's hope for him. But not at the Olympic level. It's in the very nature of the Games to reward the pure of heart, not just the most muscular, coordinated or spatially-aware. But as we all know, there's rampant corruption and drug abuse in the Olympic system. So it's all gross and disappointing. |

He committed his rape in 2016. Britain sentrnced him to 4 years.
But at the time (and maybe still), Britain had a treaty with the Netherlands, where Netherlanders had immunity from British rape laws. Back home, in the Netherlands in 2016. child rape via intoxication was considered "fornication, a lesser crime than physically violent rape. That disparity / arbitrage opportunity was recently closed, when Netherlands made all nonconsensual sex rape. https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2024/03/netherlands-historic-victory-as-dutch-law-adopts-consent-based-definition-of-rape/ |
| His depraved lack of remorse is yet another proof that the Olympics are totally corrupt. |
| Let’s arrest him like we the tsa |
