DC 7 is interested in advancing to a competitive club but needs additional work on the breast & butterfly strokes, as well as starts (knows the mechanics of all but not yet proficient). Would welcome any feedback on a development program that would put him in a solid place for next summer’s try out season. Looking at ASA Rising Stars (1x week class), Sea Devils (2x a week), NCAP AU or Toll as options. |
We really liked Rising Stars for technique compared to FINS or even RMSC. Wish Rising Stars had the option for a second class per week to build endurance.
Waiting for TOLL to post their Stroke/Endurance schedule before making our final decision for this year. I’m also trying to learn more about the FINS training group and if that would be a better fit for our kid. |
ASA’s age group head coach has just been selected a Top 50 age group coach by American Swimming Coaches Association. It is a very impressive achievement given the size of club is much smaller than other major clubs in the area such as NCAP and RMSC. Only two, him and a RMSC coach are on the list from PVS. |
Pls share the link! |
Toll and Sea Devils are smaller but solid for technical advice. |

Toll is excellent. Sea Devils is not |
We noticed the biggest difference for our DCs when swimming 3 days per week, but I suspect even 2 would be helpful. |
Had a good experience with Sea Devils AG1 group at Holton, only 4 or 5 kids with one coach. If kid is on the fence/ offered AG2 (the next highest group), better to choose AG1 where focus is more on technique. |
how is the NCAP developmental program? |
Any of these programs good for slightly older kids in particular? Looks like Rising Stars goes up to age 12 and it would be a workable location for us. I have an 11 yo who did summer swim as an 8yo, but we've been overseas since then, returning later this summer. The swimming options have been more limited where we've been so we've kept up at a minimal level. He's legal in all 4 strokes but doesn't have the interest or skill/endurance for a club program right now (we wouldn't be back for any tryouts anyway), but I know he'd like to return to summer swim next year. Curious what would be the best fit. |
FINS is good for kids who are legal in all four and looking for endurance swimming. They don't do a lot of stroke work but your kid will get laps in. |
I have seen the Sea Devils coach at practice. I would never put my kids with him. |
Why not? Is NCAP better? |
Downright mean and inappropriate comments to swimmers. I don't have any info on the NCAP developmental program. |
