TJ - Rising Senior GPA Question

Anonymous
Hi a question - DD will be a rising senior and has a weighted GPS of 4.4. Is interested in Computer Science major which we know is highly competitive. How do we know what her class rank is, or how she is placed in her batch.

4.4 AA rising senior should place top 30%.

4.5 should get you in for top 10%

OP here - thank you appreciate it.

at least top 20% at TJ now because the highest GPA of 9th grade at TJ is below 4.5.
at TJ, school do not permit student to take online AP or honor courses out of school to improve GPA.

How do people know what percent this would fall under the new admissions process? Couldn’t this be higher?

I don't think they are boosting the top end of GPA, they are buttressing the bottom end to prevent kids from flunking out.

Congrats. If you look at Naviance - 4.4 basically makes you competitive for any of the T20-30 schools. It will now depend on other parts of the application. SAT score for eg

What's going on at TJ that a 4.4 is only top 30%?

What's a 3.9 GPA... bottom 5%?

Talk about grade inflation. What a joke.

Top 30% is not 30th percentile you dumba$$. No one knows the exact number so they give a conservative range. Your brain is too small to participate in any meaningful conversation.

Hey jerkweed, you're the only one talking about percentiles. Try to follow along.

If a 4.4 gpa for a junior at TJ is only top 30% then the TJ grading system is an absolute joke.

Or the kids there are pretty smart.

TJ requires almost all honors courses (weighted 4.5) and tons and tons of AP and post AP classes weighted 5.0. So, a 4.4 reflects that.
