I float like no one’s business after gaining 100lbs, but the catch is that I cannot get out of a back float. Core strength is gone post babies and bending at the middle while floating is impossible for me. I cannot feel the a crunch to get my legs bent.
Any tips? I’ve exhausted all of my good options (pushing hands up, trying to get into a front float, etc) |
Try hands over head, arch your back and neck, and submerge your head like you were doing a back dive. Then twist your shoulders. Even if you can go very deep, getting both hands underwater and pulling on the same side should help you flip over. |
Can’t go deep |
Can you swim to the edge and use that to grab on and get out of your back float?
But you're worrying me, OP. You shouldn't be in the water if you have so little strength. You're going to drown. Please don't count on lifeguards or calling out to anyone else. You need to work with a physical therapist to regain core strength, and see if you have diastasis recti. |
Just stop floating you weirdo. |
No 16 yo tiny lifeguard will be able to pull you out. |
I don't understand what is going on. Like you get stuck in a back float? I weigh almost 200lbs and I just sink. |
I weigh a lot and can just roll out of a back float. I’m not sure I follow. |
I can totally relate. I am taking lessons and cant get out of my back float either. I can recover from a front float just fine |
?? I'll believe it when I see it. |
OP if this is true, you need to go to physical therapy asap. I have a hard time imagining someone who is ambulatory could get stuck in a back float, but if you can that suggests a really big problem maybe in your abdomen leftover from childbirth? Start with your doctor and describe the problem |
I've been almost 300 pounds and could get out of a back float. 2 things.
1. It sounds like it's dangerous for you to be in water that's above waist level. 2. Something else is going on. If you really have such poor core strength, you need a physical therapist |
This is what I do, too. If you can roll over in bed, you can do this. |
+1 to all this. If you can't move around in the water under your own power, something is really wrong and you should NOT be swimming. |
Agree.
Have you any arm strength and shoulders ok? Try putting one arm straight down in water. Then put other up across body Can you do that? Now exhale, hold breath and do both simultaneously digging into water with one arm and reaching across body to dig into water on other side. Did you roll? But in any case there is something seriously wrong with your body or your understanding of how to maneuver in water. Bending knees or body is not how I roll over in water. |
