Advanced math & part-time AAP

Do you have to parent refer for full-time AAP for DC to be considered for Level II, III, and advanced math? DC loves math & science & finds regular math way too easy. He would benefit from harder classes, but doesn’t have the test scores for Level IV. His cogat & NNAT test scores are ~115.

You can ask for your child to be considered but you don’t have to. Advanced Math at our school was based on iReady scores, SOL scores, and performance in math class. LII was something that the school sent to us in 2nd grade, our LI school did not offer LII in 1st grade for the LI kids. LIII seemed to be flexible, kids were added and dropped during the school year. I am guessing that the kids who dropped asked to not attend or their parents pulled them for some reason. DS was committee placed for LIV but we deferred so he was in Advanced Math and LIII automatically.

There is a separate parent referral for LII and LIII that you can submit at any time and they have 1 month to respond (supposedly). Most schools do a routine assessment in the Spring for LII and LIII and something in the Fall for advanced math.
