Anyone "triggered"/ having flashbacks to your own stubborn/delusuional elderly parents watching Biden fiasco?

Now it's not just about giving up the car keys or financial control before they murder someone or create financial disaster, it's about saving the country. And, as part of the disease there can be no self-awareness and all this time and money and stress is wasted trying to coddle, compliment and convince this impaired person to step down already. The difference is with Biden it seems all the high up Dems are united in wanting him out, but in my case I had a sibling benefiting financially from playing into the delusion. Regardless, if our country does not even have a clear cut legal process to force him to give up running again and force a cognitive test, good luck to the average family trying to balance work, childbearing and getting a stubborn and accomplished parent (with some narc tendencies) to give up the reigns before they take themselves and those around them down. Mom is finally safe, but we are still trying to manage the damage this fiasco did to my health, my kids (witnessing things they should never have seen) and even my husband supporting me through this.

Now our country and our future is at steak because a stubborn man in his early 80s is too impaired to realize how damaging his run is. If we cannot proverbially take away his car keys, we could have a country run by a convicted criminal who may refuse to ever give up power or a country run into the ground and just like with any impaired elder, there are those eagerly waiting to take advantage. In this case it's the leaders of Iran, China and Russia. It's like what I experienced on mega steroids. Now it's democracy, freedom and our future at steak. Please someone tell me this is all just a nightmare because I cannot do this again.

A couple of things OP:

- I am sorry about your mom.
- This is kind of hard to read.
- The president is IMPORTANT but not, by any stretch, the only one running the country.
- There really isn't any reason to think Biden is cognitively impaired: he's an old dude with a lot of plastic surgery and his face does weird things. In the debate, Trump spouts lies and stream of consciousness thinking, and that would be confusing and awkward for anyone to reply to.
- Biden is not making these decisions on his own - they are party driven.
- At this point, if you believe a(nother) Trump presidency would be the most detrimental thing to our country, these arguments are moot and not productive.

Until Biden is officially the nominee, these conversations have the potential to be quite productive

I never thought Biden was President material, specifically because he's always had a tendency to off-color remarks and bouts of anger. However he's had a very positive first term for someone who isn't naturally good at it, aided by the miraculous fitness of the American economy compared to most of the rest of the world. A lot of the credit goes to his team, who compensates for some of his deficiencies. He at least knows how to choose his team wisely, probably due to his vast political experience.

But he cannot continue on to a second term. Not because he can't physically go through the motions. He can. But because the debate single-handedly defeated the image of strong American leadership. The entire world was watching that debate. You know who lost that debate? The old guy who belongs in a nursing home, the vile guy who lies like he breathes and has no policy to speak of, and most of all, the American people.

We need new candidates. The GOP is squashed under Trump's boot, but the Democrats need to see the light and switch to someone else.

When my elderly father was unable to take care of himself and living in his home alone, I stepped up and convinced him to live with me. I was afraid for his safety and well being. During the debate I absolutely had an image of my elderly FIL come to mind. He also is in decline and denial. The way Biden stood, held himself, looked off into the middle distance. It was hard to watch.

Except that Melania never wanted Trump to run and Jill is adamant that Biden not step aside. One of them had the right instinct.
