Best place/plan to watch downtown DC's fireworks on July 4?

| We've lived in Silver Spring, MD since 1999 and have never gone to see the fireworks (other than one time in 2000 when I went as a single woman to the Mall). We're now a family of 5 including 3 teens. Where's the best place to go to see the fireworks and not be in an absolute crush of people when leaving? I remember barely being able to breathe on the metro on the way home in 2000, and having to get to the Mall super early. I'm hoping to avoid both of those things. Willing to pay for tickets to watch from a building nearby if it's under like $50 a person, or to go to a location other than the mall if there's still a great view of the fireworks. Any tips or tricks to share with me? Thanks so much! |
