My kid just did a pre read at a D3 with a holistic admissions approach. Stats are right on the bottom edge of their admissions criteria. Pre read came back that they’ll want to see 1st quarter grades as soon as available when he EDs.
B average student - everything from As to Cs most semesters. What sort of grades do you think they are looking for? Straight As? No C’s? Just a higher GPA that semester? I think it’ll be helpful for them to have them more concrete goals than just “do better.” If anyone has had something similar happen I’d love to hear if they got in in the end. I am sure it is kid and school dependent. |
| Definitely steer away from Cs. They probably just want to see a consistent grade average and no drops. |
| Shocking what you can get as a recruited athlete. School is probably rejecting kids with B averages |
They might be, but this isn’t a highly selective school - more like 75% acceptance. My kid isn’t a fantastic student, as you can see. There are schools for everyone. The coach doesn’t seem to have more pull than the marching band or whatever, which is as it should be. |
| I would hire a tutor Aug-October if this is important to your child. Secure them now in any subject that DC might get a C. Then DC will have to do the work with good support. That’s a reasonable path forward. |
| And ask school if Q1 transcript can be prepared by Oct 31 |
